This pelican was quite a friendly character on our visit to Avalon on Catalina Island. He liked to sit on that little shelf and wait for people to feed the fish in the water below him, then he’d swoop down and have an easy lunch. We were able to stand right next to him for about 10 minutes and he didn’t mind us a bit. At one point a women came over and gently stroked his back feathers which he didn’t much like. He flapped his wings a bit but he didn’t fly away. Just one of the many wonderful moments we had during our weekend in Avalon (Sept.2007).

Family Illness

My father in law underwent a very serious heart surgery on Sept. 25th and it’s been a very long recovery process. Since my husband and I spend most of our free time with the rest of his family at the hospital I haven’t had the time or the inspiration to update my site this month or create any new designs for my online shop. Hopefully I will soon have more time and motivation to get on line and create new things. Sorry nothing new has been added lately!

I captured this image from our moving truck as the sun was setting in Eureka, California. All I really wanted was the sunset image but these plants/weeds jumped into the scene (funny how things seem to do that when you’re going about 70 miles an hour ). I really love how it turned out. Completely unplanned yet beautiful to me. I think I may add this to my zazzle shop in the future, available as a canvas print. The canvas would add a lovely texture.

Lately I’ve been quite busy and haven’t really had as much time to spend online as I’d like. I’m taking a couple of college courses and my husband and I have been doing a little bit of traveling. Actually most of September we will be taking little trips. We were in Northern California for a the first week of September, we’re heading to the Grass Valley/Sierra Nevada Mts. area around the 20th of the month for a horse show and we’ll have a weekend in Phoenix to see a skating show at the end of the month. I also have a feeling that my husband is planning something interesting for my birthday on the 15th, but I’m not sure. Anyway, I’ve going to have a TON of photographs to add to the site just as soon as I get a moment to do it. I also have to reorganize my online shop, get rid of a few old designs and add a bunch of new ones. Too much to do!! Eventually I will get around to all of it though. I hope visitors will be patient with me and keep coming around to check out any new additions. Also, please feel free to leave comments either here or on my contact us page!

I’ve been a fan of figure skating since I was a little girl. There is just something about the graceful artistry of ice skating that satisfies something deep in my soul. It’s so beautiful & elegant, so light and free; like flying. I often use to daydream about flying across the ice. Since I’ve gotten married (2005) I haven’t had much time to watch figure skating. Other things in life just seem to take precedence . I didn’t realize just how much I’ve missed it until last night when I happened to come across a skating show I’d taped from tv in 2001. I don’t really know how it ended up mixed in with our other videos. All my other skating tapes are in storage. But there it was. I put it on and was immediately reminded of how much I love to watch that sport. Everything about figure skating is beautiful to me. I admire the slim, lean, athletic yet feminine bodies of the female skaters and the strength & flexibility of the men. I love the sultry jazz & uplifting classical music the skaters often skate to. Most of all I just love the beauty of their movements across the ice, as they glide and twirl, leap and sway to the music. It’s perfection. Nothing relaxes me more than to watch good figure skating. So here are a few of my favorite skating videos, to remind myself to take time to enjoy beauty.

Developing your creative spirit

How does someone learn to be an artist, to develop their creativity and aesthetic sense? It frustrates me so much to have all these feelings, dreams, thoughts that I want to express but I can’t get them to come out properly when I try my hand at something creative. Since early childhood I’ve felt as if I should be creating something, that I was meant to be an artist of some kind. I think I was given a creative soul but that God forgot to give me the talent I’d need to express that creativity. Maybe my problem is that I’m a perfectionist at heart. I expect to immediately be good at things when in fact it takes time to develop these skills.

I keep reminding myself of these quotes:
